Author: davej | Filed under: Ignite London | 1 Comment »It was with great sadness we read yesterday evening that The Luminaire, probably London’s best small venue, will be closing on 31 December.
The Luminaire played host to #IgniteLDN2 and #IgniteLDN3 and we were looking forward to holding Ignite London 4 there in February 2011. Andy and his staff have always been amazingly accommodating and helpful, often going beyond the call of duty. They were definitely an integral part of Ignite London’s success thus far and we thank them and wish them all the best for the future.
Kilburn, London and the live music scene in general will sorely miss The Luminaire. They’ve still got a number of shows on before closing, so get up to NW6 whilst you can to catch a gig, or have a drink in sister pub The Kings Head.
So where does this leave Ignite London? We are still aiming for the next event to be during Global Ignite Week in February 2011 and have already started the search for a new venue. If you have any suggestions, or are involved in running a venue, you think would be suitable for a future event please email us on info@ignitelondon.net with the subject ‘Venue’ or tweet @ignite_london.
The ideal place would be in or near Central London, could accommodate 250 people or more, have AV facilities and a bar, or the possibility for these to be brought in.
Stay tuned for further updates.

All the talks at Ignite London 3 on 28 September 2010 were captured on video by our very own Richard, and having been edited, jigged and poked are now available to view.
You can access them all via this site’s videos link or directly via the Vimeo channel . They can be viewed on mobile devices, so you can relive the night’s action on a train or bus and bemuse your fellow commuters whilst chuckling to yourself trying to divide 23,792 by 27 or marveling at one man’s epic mission to count all his sneezes.
Hopefully you’ll find inspiration for a talk you can make at our next event during Global Ignite Week 7-11 February 2011.
There’s also a number of great photos from the last event (and the previous two) at the Ignite London Flickr pool. If any attendees had cameras on the night and took some snaps it would be fantastic to see them added.

If there’s a topic you are passionate about and you want to spend five minutes sharing it with an enthusiastic audience, and possibly the whole world via Ignite Show, this is your chance. We’re after a mix of funny and serious, social and personal, high and low tech, crafty, webby, environmental, quirky and mainstream. Making us laugh is a good thing, making us think is even better! The only thing we insist on is No Sales Pitches. To get an idea of the wide range of previous talks take a look at the videos of previous events.
How to submit a Proposal
Email your proposal to speakers@ignitelondon.net . Please include as much information about your proposed presentation as you can as this will help determine who is picked. If you can, include the following:
- Your Name
- Title of Your Talk
- Brief description of what you want to talk about
- Twitter Name (if applicable)
- Email Address
- Contact phone number
- Blog or Website URL
- Short Bio – who you are and what you do
By submitting a proposal, you are agreeing that we may use your name and the title of your talk within Ignite London promotional material.
Deadline
Proposals must be received by 6 pm on Wednesday 1 September 2010. Based on the previous two events we expect to receive many more submissions than can be accommodated so there more information about your talk you can give the better. We will endeavour to respond to your proposal as soon as we can to confirm we’ve received it.
How will selections be made?
Talks will be primarily selected based on whether the topic is interesting, inventive, creative and unique. We will also make an attempt to select a wide range of topics so that there isn’t too much overlap in terms of content and subjects that haven’t been covered at previous Ignite London events. It would be great to have more ladies speak too. We’ll let you know soon after the deadline whether your proposal has been successful in order to give you as much time as possible to prepare.
